Final Fire Pro Wrestling on the GBA is one of those games that feels way bigger than it has any right to be. At first glance, the tiny sprites don’t scream "epic wrestling showdown," but give it five minutes—suddenly you’re sweating over whether to go for a quick roll-up pin or risk a top-rope moonsault. The timing takes some getting used to (press buttons too early and your wrestler just flails awkwardly), but once it clicks, the matches flow like a legit NJPW undercard.

What’s wild is how much personality they crammed into this cartridge. Yeah, it’s all original wrestlers, but the guy in the luchador mask with the sparkly tights? You’ll swear you’ve seen him on late-night lucha libre broadcasts. And the customization—spent way too long making a ridiculously buff version of my cat as a wrestler. No regrets.

It’s not perfect—the menus are a maze of kanji if you don’t know Japanese, and good luck figuring out some moves without trial and error. But for a handheld wrestling game, it’s shockingly deep. Just don’t blame me when you start mentally calculating grapple ranges while waiting for the bus.
