Guide Fred Flintstone through side-scrolling levels in Bedrock, rescue Pebbles and Bamm Bamm, bash enemies with a club, and solve puzzles using Barney for help.
I remember picking up Flintstones on the Sega Genesis back in 1993, a game developed by Grandslam and published by Sega. It was one of those licensed platformers that felt right at home on the system, sitting alongside other cartoon adaptations that tried to capture the spirit of the shows without necessarily breaking new ground.
You control Fred Flintstone, moving through side scrolling levels set in Bedrock and beyond. The main goal is to rescue Pebbles and Bamm Bamm from a series of kidnappers, which involves platforming, hitting enemies with Fred's club, and solving simple puzzles. Signature mechanics include using Barney as a helper in certain sections (he can be thrown at enemies or used to reach higher platforms) and dealing with the occasional interference from The Great Gazoo, who warps you around if you touch him. The pacing is fairly standard for the era, though some jumps feel a bit unforgiving, and the difficulty ramps up steadily in later stages. It feels like a straightforward, sometimes clunky, but oddly charming trip back to the era of Saturday morning cartoons.
