Game Overview

Funny Field was a 1990 Game Boy release from publisher Irem, a small puzzle game that fit right in with the system's library of portable, thoughtful diversions. It didn't aim for the epic scope of an adventure title; it was a game built for short bursts of concentration, something to play in the backseat during a long car ride.

You control a small character on a grid based field, and your only goal is to survive. You don't attack the enemies directly. Instead, you lure them into traps you create by moving, essentially drawing lines on the playfield to box them in. The mechanics are simple: you move one space, then every enemy on screen moves one space toward you. The challenge comes from predicting their paths several turns ahead, especially as more and more foes pour onto the grid. The pacing is methodical but tense, a quiet panic that builds as your escape routes get cut off. It feels like a constant, satisfying battle of wits against a swarm of predictable but relentless opponents.
