Play Gaiares (Japan, USA) Online
You hijack enemy weapons with a drone—turning their own firepower against them while dodging insane bullet hell. Those screen-filling bosses don’t play fair, but stealing some freakish laser cannon makes it worth the pain.

Game Overview
Gaiares is one of those Genesis shooters that sticks with you—mostly because it does something weird with the usual power-up formula. Instead of grabbing floating icons, you latch onto enemies with this little drone thing and steal their weapons. First time I played, I zapped some random grunt and suddenly had this ridiculous spread shot that filled half the screen. Felt like cheating.
It’s tough as nails, though. Even with stolen tech, the bullet patterns get brutal by stage 3, and the soundtrack has this grimy, synth-heavy vibe that somehow makes dying repeatedly less frustrating. The bosses are these chunky pixel monstrosities that take up way too much of the screen, in the best way possible.
If you’re into shmups with a gimmick that actually changes how you play, this one’s worth digging up.
