Gakuen Senki Muryou (or Rising Sun if you prefer) is exactly that—a weirdly brilliant tactical RPG where you’re ordering kids with way too much firepower around grid-based battlefields. The first mission alone has you ambushing enemy squads from the school roof, and it only gets crazier from there.
It feels like someone mashed Advance Wars with a chaotic anime plot—students debating battle tactics between classes, teachers giving orders like generals, and this unsettling contrast of cheerful chibi sprites fighting actual wars. The turn-based combat’s surprisingly deep, too, with terrain bonuses and unit types that actually matter. I kept getting wrecked by snipers until I realized chemistry club members make killer grenadiers.
No English release, but the fan translation’s solid. If you’ve got a soft spot for forgotten GBA strategy games with personality, this one’s got more charm than half the stuff that actually made it overseas.
