Game Overview

Gem'X came out on the Amiga in 1990 from Demonware Softwarehaus GmbH and Global Software. It was one of those clever puzzle games that felt right at home on the platform, a time when a good concept and clean execution mattered more than flashy presentation. You didn't need a complicated story; you just needed a grid of tiles and a problem to solve.

You control a cursor to manipulate a grid of colored gems, matching the pattern on the left side to the one shown on the right. Each click rotates a gem's color, but it also affects the gems adjacent to it, creating a chain reaction you have to plan for. The main objective is to clear each screen by making the gems disappear once they cycle past yellow, causing the remaining ones to drop down and often create new combinations. The game gives you a limited number of moves per stage, and the puzzles get progressively more devious, demanding real foresight. It feels like untangling a knot with your mind, one thoughtful click at a time.
