Game Overview

General Chaos came out for the Sega Genesis in 1993, developed by Game Refuge Inc. It was a time when local multiplayer games were starting to really find their footing on consoles, and this one leaned hard into that chaotic, shared-screen energy. It didn't try to be a serious war sim; it was something else entirely.

You control a squad of five distinct soldiers, each with a unique weapon like a flamethrower or grenade launcher, and you direct them across small, obstacle-filled battlefields. The main objective is simply to eliminate the opposing team's squad before they eliminate yours. Key mechanics include swapping control between your individual soldiers on the fly and using the environment to your advantage, as stray shots can blow up barrels or set the grass on fire. The pacing is frantic, and the friendly fire means your own troops are often your biggest threat. It feels like trying to manage a bar fight where everyone is armed with explosives.
