Play Getaway, The Online
Dodge guards and crack locks in tight corridors—one wrong move and alarms blare while that chiptune panic music kicks in. Memorize patrol routes just to get tripped up by a pressure plate you missed last time.

I picked up The Getaway for Game Boy in 2002, a stealth action game developed by Team Soho. It was a time when handhelds were full of straightforward platformers and puzzle games, so a top-down sneaker like this felt like a deliberate, almost niche choice. You didn't see many games trying to replicate that methodical, cautious style of play on the small screen back then.
You control a prisoner trying to break out of a heavily guarded facility. The main objective is to navigate through each screen-based room, avoiding guards and security systems to reach the exit. Signature mechanics include memorizing guard patrol routes to slip past them undetected, and carefully picking locks on doors without triggering alarms. The pacing is slow and deliberate; rushing usually means getting caught and sent back to the start of the stage. It feels tense and methodical, rewarding patience and careful observation over quick reflexes.
