Gogetsuji Legends is one of those mid-90s arcade fighters that somehow flew under the radar—which is a shame, because it's got this weird charm to it. You pick from a roster of characters that feel like they were designed by someone who really loved samurai movies and street brawls in equal measure.
The first thing you'll notice is how weighty the hits feel—when your character lands a solid punch or kick, the screen shakes just enough to make it satisfying without being overdone. The combos aren't as flashy as something like Street Fighter, but they're chunky and responsive. I kept going back to the big guy with the spiked club because there's something deeply satisfying about how he just smashes through defenses.
It's not the most balanced fighter out there (some characters are clearly better than others), but that almost adds to the arcade chaos. If you're into retro fighters that don't take themselves too seriously, this one's worth a few rounds.
