Play Gojira Online
Control Godzilla, smash through a city, fend off military attacks, and unleash atomic breath while dodging enemies in this 1990 Game Boy action game.
Gojira came out for the Game Boy in 1990, developed by Compile and published by Toho. It was one of those early portable games that tried to capture a big concept on a small, monochrome screen, fitting right in with the platform's library of simple, direct action titles.
You control Godzilla, moving left and right through a destructible cityscape. Your main goal is to reach the end of each stage while fending off military vehicles and occasional kaiju rivals. You attack with a short-range tail whip and a long-range atomic breath that consumes energy; destroying buildings and enemies sometimes drops power-ups to refill your health or breath meter. The game moves at a deliberate pace, with some frustration coming from awkward jumps and enemy placements that can trap you. It feels like a straightforward, sometimes clumsy rampage where the satisfaction comes from seeing the city slowly break apart under your feet.
