Gradius Galaxies came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2001, developed by Mobile21 and published by Konami. It was one of the few exclusive shooters on the system that really tried to capture the feel of the older arcade games, back when portable gaming was still mostly about short bursts of action and high score chasing.

You pilot the Vic Viper through horizontally scrolling stages, shooting down enemy formations and dodging intricate bullet patterns. The main goal is to survive each level and defeat the large boss waiting at the end. The game uses the classic Gradius power-up system; you collect capsules to build a meter and select upgrades like speed boosts, multiple lasers, options that mirror your shots, or protective shields. The pacing is fast and the difficulty is steep, demanding quick reflexes and careful power-up management. It feels tense and rewarding when you finally clear a tough section you've been stuck on.
