Play Growl Online
You pick a park ranger and wade into crowds of poachers, tossing crates and swinging swords while rescued animals occasionally chomp on bad guys. The combat’s messy but satisfying—especially when you finally grab a gun and blast a few before going back to fists.

Growl came out for the Sega Genesis in 1991, published by Taito. It was one of those side-scrolling beat 'em ups that felt right at home on the system, where you and a friend could just jump in and start swinging. The game didn't try to be anything more than a straightforward action experience, and it fit right in with the kind of co-op titles people were passing controllers around for back then.
You control a park ranger tasked with stopping poachers across several levels, from jungles to industrial sites. The main goal is to rescue animals and beat down waves of enemies using punches, kicks, and occasional weapons like swords or guns picked up from crates. A signature mechanic is the way freed animals will sometimes turn on your attackers, adding a bit of unpredictable help. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty can spike with some brutal enemy swarms. It feels chaotic and a little rough around the edges, but there's a simple joy in plowing through crowds with a mix of brawn and borrowed firepower.
