Game Overview
Hardball III on the Sega Genesis is one of those baseball games that just feels right when you're swinging the bat. The colors pop way more than you'd expect from a 16-bit game—grass looks weirdly vibrant, and the players actually have some decent detail. Al Michaels chimes in with commentary that's surprisingly not annoying, though after a few innings you'll start hearing the same lines repeat.
Pitching takes some getting used to—curveballs either snap perfectly or hang right over the plate for an easy homer. But when you nail a fastball down the middle and send it deep? That crack of the bat still hits different. The fielding controls are a little stiff, but you get the hang of diving for liners after a game or two.
It's not the deepest baseball sim out there, but for quick pick-up games with a buddy, it holds up better than most from that era.
