Hot Wheels: Burnin' Rubber came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2001, developed by DC Studios and published by THQ. It was one of those early GBA racers that tried to capture the feel of arcade racing with a toy brand twist, back when portable 3D was still rough around the edges but full of ambition.
You control a selection of Hot Wheels cars, racing through themed tracks filled with loops, jumps, and hazardous obstacles. The main goal is straightforward: finish first across a series of cups and unlock new vehicles. Key mechanics include performing mid-air stunts by tilting the car to earn turbo boosts, and using that turbo at the right moment to surge ahead or recover from a crash. The game moves quickly, with rubber-band AI that keeps races tense right to the finish line. It feels like a chaotic, slightly janky toybox come to life, where every race is a mix of skill and happy accidents.
