Game Overview

If you've ever wanted to feel the sheer chaos of the Indy 500 without actually wrecking a real car, this Amiga classic nails it. You start by tweaking your ride—playing with tire pressures and turbo settings feels oddly satisfying, though I learned the hard way that cranking the boost too high just leaves you sputtering by lap 50. The qualifying laps are tense, trying to shave milliseconds off your time while not wiping out on the turns.

The race itself is where things get wild. Go for the full 200 laps if you're brave (or slightly masochistic), but even the shorter races turn into bumper cars at 200mph. Without full-course yellows in the easier modes, the track becomes a graveyard of smoking wrecks by mid-race. The 3D graphics were impressive for the time, though these days it’s more charming than realistic—like watching old VHS footage of an actual Indy 500, complete with pixelated carnage.

It’s not the prettiest racer now, but there’s something weirdly addictive about threading through a pileup on the final lap.
