Right from the start, you're thrown into this shadowy world where every corridor feels like it's hiding something—sometimes treasure, sometimes a monster that'll make you jump. Your character moves with this weirdly satisfying weight, swinging a sword that actually feels like it connects, while spells add just enough variety to keep fights from getting stale.
The music? All haunting synths and pounding drums, like someone remixed a horror movie soundtrack for a 16-bit system. And yeah, it’s tough—you’ll die a lot to cheap hits at first—but once you learn enemy patterns and get the timing down, pulling off a flawless run through a level feels incredible. If you’ve ever wished Castlevania had a little more speed and a little less “trial-and-error,” this might be your fix.
It’s not perfect (the translation’s a bit rough), but for a deep-cut Genesis action game, it holds up way better than it has any right to.
