Jurassic Park 2: The Lost World came out on the Sega Genesis in 1997, published by Sega. It was one of those later Genesis titles that tried to push the hardware a bit further, with more detailed environments and a darker tone than some earlier dino games. You could feel the system aging, but it still had some surprises left.
You control either a human character or a velociraptor, each with unique abilities. The human moves slower but uses tranquilizer darts and other gear; the raptor is fast and lethal with its claws, but more vulnerable. The goal is to navigate through side scrolling jungle and facility stages, rescuing stranded humans and surviving dinosaur attacks. Key mechanics include switching between characters to solve environmental puzzles, avoiding deadly dinos that often leap into the frame unexpectedly, and managing limited ammo or health. The pacing is tense, with frequent ambushes making progress feel risky. It feels like a constant scramble for survival, where one wrong move can end your expedition quickly.
