Karnaaj Rally came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2002, developed by Paragon 5. It was one of those top-down racers that tried to squeeze a lot of action onto the small screen during the GBA's early years, when developers were still figuring out how to make the most of the hardware. You got a sense of ambition from it, even if the execution sometimes felt a little rough around the edges.
You control a small rally car from an overhead view, navigating tight, maze-like tracks filled with hazards like oil slicks, mines, and rival vehicles that shoot projectiles. The main goal is simply to finish each race in first place, but survival often feels like the real victory. Key mechanics include picking up power-ups scattered on the course, such as turbo boosts for sudden speed bursts or weapons to temporarily disable opponents. The pace is frantic, and the collision physics are unforgiving; a single wrong turn or poorly placed mine can ruin an entire lap. It feels like a constant scramble for control on tracks that are just a little too narrow for comfort.
