Play Kick Boxing, The (Japan) on gb Online
Your little pixel boxer sways like a drunk, but landing a clean hook makes the screen shake just right. The AI fights dirty—just when you think you’ve got the rhythm, they slip a counter that sends you reeling.

Kick Boxing, The came out for the Game Boy in 1990, developed by Toei Animation. It was one of those early portable fighting games that tried to capture the feel of arcade brawlers on a small screen. You controlled a boxer making his way through a series of opponents, each with their own style and tactics.
You move your fighter forward and backward, throwing jabs, hooks, and uppercuts with the A and B buttons. The main goal is to defeat each opponent by depleting their health bar before they knock you out. The game uses a screen by screen setup where you and your opponent are always centered, and you have to watch for tells and time your blocks. Matches can feel slow and deliberate, with a high emphasis on reading the opponent rather than button mashing. It feels tense and strategic, especially when you're low on health and one good hit could end the fight.
