I picked up Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Legend on the Game Boy Advance back in 2006, a time when getting a decent action-adventure game on a handheld felt like a real treat. Developed by Crystal Dynamics and published by Eidos, it was a scaled-down but surprisingly thoughtful adaptation of the console game, built for quick sessions on the go. It fit right into that era where portable games often had to be clever re-imaginings rather than direct ports.

You control Lara through a series of side-scrolling levels, moving screen by screen to solve environmental puzzles, avoid traps, and battle enemies with her dual pistols. The main goal is to find pieces of an ancient artifact, which involves a lot of climbing, lever pulling, and block pushing. Two mechanics that stand out are the grappling hook, used to swing across gaps and pull down obstacles, and the occasional vehicle sections, like a motorcycle chase, that break up the platforming. The pacing is brisk, and some jumps require precise timing, making it a satisfying challenge. It feels sharp and responsive, like a well-designed pocket-sized adventure.
