Legend Of Zelda, The [T-German] is one of those NES games that feels simple at first—just a green-clad guy wandering around with a sword—but then the world slowly unfolds. You push blocks, burn bushes, and suddenly realize you've been lost in the same dungeon for half an hour.

The overworld is deceptively open, with secrets hidden under rocks or behind bombable walls. Sometimes you stumble into an area way above your level, and those blue Darknuts just wreck you. The German text doesn't change much, but it's funny seeing "Ganon" in all caps like he's yelling at you.

It's rough around the edges by today's standards, but there's something satisfying about mapping dungeons on graph paper because the game sure won't help you. Legend Of Zelda, The [T-German] still holds up if you can handle the old-school challenge.
