Game Overview

Lufia: The Ruins of Lore came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2002, developed by Neverland and published by Taito. It was part of that wave of solid, traditional RPGs that filled the GBA library, offering a deep adventure you could take anywhere. The game exists as a side story in the wider Lufia series, but it stands well enough on its own for newcomers.

You control a young adventurer named Eldin, and your goal is to uncover the truth behind ancient ruins and a mysterious group known as the Sinistrals. A lot of your time is spent exploring towns for clues, then delving into multi-level dungeons filled with puzzles, traps, and turn-based battles. One of its signature mechanics is the ability to capture and recruit monsters; you can have them fight alongside you or even temporarily transform your main character into them to use their unique abilities. The pacing is deliberate, with a moderate difficulty that encourages thoughtful party management. It feels like a thoughtful, classic RPG experience built for portable play.
