Play Mahou Kishi Rayearth Online
You control three girls tossed into a fantasy world, swapping between sword fights and magic spells before suddenly piloting giant robots—somehow it all clicks on the Game Boy’s tiny screen.

Mahou Kishi Rayearth came out on the Game Boy in 1995, published by Tomy. It's an action RPG based on the Magic Knight Rayearth anime, a title that fit right in with the era's trend of adapting popular series into portable adventures. You don't see many games from that time trying to blend traditional fantasy with giant robots, but this one gives it a shot on the small screen.
You take control of three heroines, Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu, and must switch between them to leverage their unique abilities; Hikaru uses a sword for close combat, Umi employs a bow for ranged attacks, and Fuu casts healing and offensive magic. The main goal is to rescue the princess by navigating through a series of top-down dungeons, solving simple block-pushing puzzles, and defeating enemies to collect gems that power up your characters. The pacing is deliberate, with exploration happening screen by screen, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly during boss fights. It feels like a condensed, slightly janky version of a bigger console adventure, but there's a charm in making it work on the Game Boy.
