Game Overview

Marathon on the Amiga is one of those games that feels way ahead of its time. You're dumped into this eerie, maze-like spaceship with nothing but a pistol and a creeping sense that something’s very wrong. The corridors twist and turn, and the low-res aliens lurk just out of sight—until they don’t. The sound design alone makes your skin crawl, with distant growls and metallic clangs that keep you guessing.

What really hooked me was how the game doesn’t hold your hand. No waypoints, no glowing arrows—just you, a map screen you’ll obsess over, and a lot of backtracking when you realize you missed a keycard three floors back. The weapons feel satisfyingly chunky, especially the shotgun, though ammo’s scarce enough that you’ll think twice before blasting everything. And those terminals? They actually tell a story if you bother to read them, which I didn’t at first—big mistake.

It’s clunky by today’s standards, but there’s something raw about Marathon that later shooters polished away. You’ll either love it or rage-quit after getting lost for the tenth time.
