Mega Phoenix takes the old-school arcade vibe of Phoenix and cranks it up for the Amiga. You're stuck on a single screen, dodging left and right while blasting waves of aliens that swoop down in these weirdly hypnotic patterns. At first, it's just these little guys dive-bombing you—touch one and you're toast—but then the real trouble starts when the phoenixes show up, spitting fire and generally being a pain.

There's a shield, but it's a trade-off: hit the button and you're safe for a second, but you can't move while it's up. And after that, it takes a beat to recharge, so timing it wrong means you're just sitting there waiting to get wrecked. The final boss is this massive bird thing that fills half the screen, and once you beat it, the whole cycle starts over, just faster and meaner.

It's one of those games where you'll swear the aliens are cheating by the third loop.
