Game Overview

Microbes came out for the Amiga in 1992, developed by Millennium Interactive. It was one of those games that felt right at home on the platform, offering a mix of strategy and action that stood out from the typical shooters and platformers of the time. You don't see many games set entirely inside a petri dish, but this one made the concept work with a clean, colorful visual style and straightforward mechanics.

You control a single microbe, guiding it around a circular arena filled with nutrients and hostile organisms. The main goal is to survive and grow by absorbing colored nutrient pellets while avoiding or eventually fighting off predators. Key mechanics include splitting your microbe to attack or defend, managing your size and speed, and adapting to increasingly aggressive enemy behavior. The pacing is fast and tense; one wrong move can quickly undo minutes of careful growth. It feels like a constant balancing act between expansion and self preservation.
