Milon's Secret Castle came out for the Game Boy in 1986, developed by Hudson Soft. It was one of those early puzzle platformers that felt right at home on the handheld, offering a dense, exploratory experience when many games were still focused on simpler arcade action. You controlled a young boy named Milon, tasked with rescuing a kidnapped fairy queen from a cursed castle.

You move room by room, shooting bubbles to defeat enemies and reveal hidden blocks, doors, and items. The goal is to explore the castle's many chambers, find four magical instruments, and defeat the area bosses. A big part of the game involves spending coins at statues to unlock new paths or reveal vital secrets. It moves slowly, and the difficulty is unforgiving; you have to study each screen and experiment to progress. Playing it feels like untangling a stubborn knot, piece by piece.
