Game Overview

Mogu Mogu Gombo is a Japan-only Game Boy release from 1990, developed by KID and published by Irem. It arrived in the middle of the handheld's life, a time when developers were experimenting with simple, quirky concepts that didn't require complex stories or deep mechanics. The game fits right into that experimental niche, offering a strange but charming premise built around a very unusual protagonist.

You control a green, gelatinous blob named Gombo, and your goal is to clear each single-screen room by consuming every piece of furniture. You stretch your body to cover objects, pulling them into your mass, but you must avoid spikes and other hazards that can pop you. The main challenge comes from navigating the layout of each stage while managing your expanding, jiggly form. The pacing is methodical, almost puzzle-like, as you figure out the safest path to swallow everything without getting caught. It feels silly and oddly satisfying to squish around the screen, cleaning up each room with a series of enthusiastic gulps.
