NBA Jam is that ridiculous arcade basketball game where players catch fire after three baskets in a row and dunk from half-court like it’s nothing. The pixelated 90s graphics, announcer yelling "BOOMSHAKALAKA," and gravity-defying moves make it feel more like a cartoon than a sports sim—which is exactly why it’s so fun.
You pick two NBA players (somehow Scottie Pippen and Patrick Ewing are on the same team), and then it’s just pure chaos: shoving opponents, stealing the ball mid-air, and pulling off dunks that would snap a real player’s ankles. The controls are simple—pass, shoot, turbo—but mastering the timing for steals and blocks takes a few games. Also, the CPU cheats. A lot.
If you’ve got MAME set up, this one’s worth firing up just to relive the absurdity. Just don’t expect realism unless your idea of basketball involves catching flames after a lucky streak.
