Game Overview

NCAA Final Four Basketball came out on the Sega Genesis in 1994, developed by BlueSky Software. It was one of the few college hoops games on the system, arriving right when the console was hitting its peak. You got to play with real teams and players from that season, which felt like a big deal at the time.

You control all five players on a college basketball team, working together to score and stop the other team. The main goal is to win the national championship by advancing through a full tournament bracket, and the game actually lets you save your progress between games. Key mechanics include a timed shot meter for free throws and jump shots, where releasing the button at the right moment is everything, and full control over passing, steals, and defensive positioning. The pace is fast, and the computer can be relentless on higher difficulties, making every possession count. It feels satisfying when your plays come together and you start a fast break the other way.
