Game Overview

Need for Speed: Underground on Game Boy Advance, released in 2004 by EA, was a handheld take on the street racing scene popular at the time. It arrived when portable racing games were often simpler, scaled-down versions of console titles, and this one tried to pack a surprising amount of customization and style into the small screen.

You control a street racer aiming to climb the ranks by winning events across the city. Between races, you can upgrade your car's performance and change its visual parts, like body kits and vinyls. The top-down perspective keeps things fast and arcade-like, with an emphasis on tight drifts and avoiding traffic. It can get challenging as opponents become more aggressive, and the physics have a distinct, slightly loose feel that takes some getting used to. Sliding around corners and narrowly avoiding collisions gives it a hectic, engaging rhythm.
