It was one of the few football games available on the handheld at the time, offering a portable alternative to the console versions. You could pick from a roster of NFL quarterbacks, each with their own strengths, and play through a full season or just a quick exhibition game. The graphics were basic, as expected, but it got the job done for on-the-go play.
You control the quarterback before the snap, selecting plays from a menu, then dropping back to pass or hand off the ball. The main goal is to move down the field and score touchdowns against the opposing team. Signature mechanics include a passing system where you target receivers by pressing directional buttons and timing your throw, along with a scrambling ability to avoid oncoming defenders. The game moves at a brisk pace, and the difficulty can spike with aggressive defensive pressure. It feels satisfying when you connect on a long pass and watch your receiver sprint into the end zone.
