Game Overview
NHL Hockey on the Sega Genesis is one of those games that just feels like hockey—fast, chaotic, and a little rough around the edges. You’ve got all 24 NHL teams with real players (well, as real as early '90s pixelated sprites can get), and each one has stats that actually matter—some guys skate like they’re stuck in mud, others can snipe shots from the blue line.
The top-down view takes a second to get used to, but once you do, you’ll be slamming opponents into the boards and setting up breakaways like it’s second nature. The organ music and digitized voice yelling "GOAL!" somehow make it feel like you’re in some tiny, echoey arena, even if you’re just sitting on your couch. And yeah, you can play a full season or just jump into a game when you’ve got five minutes to spare.
It’s not perfect—the AI can be a little predictable after a while—but for its time, it nailed the speed and physicality of hockey better than anything else. Still holds up if you’re into retro sports games.
