Night Slashers is one of those arcade brawlers that somehow slipped under the radar back in the day, but man, does it hold up. You pick from three monster hunters—each with their own weirdly satisfying moves—and just start wrecking zombies, werewolves, and other nightmare fuel in dimly lit streets and creepy mansions. The animations are surprisingly slick for a '90s arcade game, especially when you pull off a screen-clearing super move.
What I love is how unapologetically over-the-top it is. One minute you're dropkicking a chainsaw-wielding maniac, the next you're fighting a giant demon baby (yeah, really). The Japanese version tweaks some hitboxes and adds a bit more gore, which honestly fits the vibe. It's tough as nails, but in that way where you keep feeding quarters because you know you can get further next time. Perfect for when you want that old-school arcade rush without leaving your couch.
