Play Nightmare Circus Online
Punch knife-handed clowns and dodge flying saw blades in this janky-but-charming Genesis brawler—Raven’s slide kick is your best friend against those stretchy acrobats and fireball-spitting weirdos.

Nightmare Circus came out for the Sega Genesis in 1996, a late release from Sega that felt a bit out of step with the 32-bit consoles already on the market. You control a pair of kids, Raven and Dirk, who have to fight their way through a demonic circus to rescue their kidnapped friend. The game is a side-scrolling beat 'em up where you move from screen to screen, clearing out waves of enemies before you can progress.
Each character has a basic attack combo and a special move, like Raven's slide kick, which is essential for crowd control. You fight knife-handed clowns, acrobats that stretch across the screen, and bosses that fill the arena with projectiles. The main goal is straightforward: survive each area, defeat the boss, and move on. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty spikes sharply, demanding precise timing and a lot of patience. It feels chaotic and unforgiving, but there's a strange satisfaction in mastering its clunky rhythm.
