Ninku on the Game Boy came out in 1996 from a company called Yutaka. It was part of that wave of licensed games based on anime, which were pretty common on the handheld. You wouldn't call it a hidden classic, but it had a certain charm if you were into the show or just liked action platformers from that era.
You control one of three Ninku masters, each with a unique elemental power, like creating whirlwinds or summoning ice. The goal is to fight through side scrolling stages, clearing out enemy ninjas. The main mechanics involve switching between your three characters on the fly to use their specific abilities to solve environmental puzzles and defeat certain foes. Combat is fast and a bit messy, with enemies often filling the screen. It can be surprisingly difficult, with some cheap hits and demanding platforming sections. Playing it feels like managing a small, chaotic squad in your pocket.
