Play Otto's Ottifanten Online
Guide Otto through tricky platforming challenges to rescue his elephant friends, dodging enemies and collecting keys along the way in this quirky Game Boy adventure.
I picked up Otto's Ottifanten for the Game Boy back in 1993, a time when licensed games were everywhere and you never quite knew what you were getting. It was developed by Neon and published by Infogrames, based on a German comic strip I wasn't familiar with, but the box art had a certain odd charm that fit right in with the portable library of the era.
You control Otto, a tall, gangly character, and your main goal is to rescue your elephant friends who have been scattered across numerous single-screen stages. The gameplay involves careful platforming, jumping across moving ledges and dodging enemies, while also collecting keys to unlock cages. The pacing is deliberate, almost slow, and the controls require a bit of patience to master, making some jumps feel more precarious than they should. It feels like a strange, slightly clumsy puzzle where every successful rescue comes with a small sigh of relief.
