Patrician on the Amiga is one of those games that looks simple at first—just trading goods between medieval towns, right? But then you realize how deep it goes. You start with a single ship, barely scraping by, buying cheap wool in one port and selling it where they’re desperate for textiles. Before long, you’re juggling trade routes, dealing with pirates, and trying not to bankrupt yourself when the market suddenly crashes.

The Disk2 version adds some nice refinements, like smoother sailing between ports and better price tracking. It’s still brutally unforgiving if you make a bad call, though—I lost half my fleet once because I underestimated how much grain Lübeck actually needed. The charm is in those little details, like watching your tiny ship sprites bob across the North Sea while you pray they make it back alive.

If you’ve got the patience for slow-building strategy, this one’s a classic for a reason.
