Ever wanted to play as a Pokémon nurse? Pikapika Nurse Monogatari is this weird little GBA game from Japan where you don’t battle Pokémon—you heal them. It’s all pastel colors and chibi sprites, with Pikachu looking extra round and worried when he’s got a fever. You’ll run around a tiny clinic checking temperatures, handing out berry medicine, and occasionally panicking because a Jigglypuff’s cough turned into a full-on balloon inflation crisis.
It’s janky in that early 2000s way—some of the "diagnoses" make zero sense, and the controls are stiff—but that’s part of the charm. There’s something oddly satisfying about wrapping a Band-Aid on a Squirtle’s shell while cheerful MIDI music plays. I still have no idea what half the dialogue says, but the pixel art alone makes it worth digging up a ROM. You’ll either love it for its weirdness or quit after ten minutes confused. No in-between.
