Play Pioneer Plague, The Online
Explore a derelict colony ship, solve puzzles, and fight infected crew members using scavenged weapons. Features non-linear progression and survival horror elements. Released in 1988 for Amiga.
Pioneer Plague came out for the Amiga in 1988, developed by a small team whose name escapes me now. It was one of those games that felt ambitious for its time, trying to blend exploration with a creeping sense of dread on hardware that was just starting to handle deeper atmospheres. You don't see many titles from that era attempting a moody, isolated experience quite like this one.
You control a lone survivor aboard a massive colony ship overrun by a mysterious infection. Your goal is to navigate the derelict vessel, restore systems, and find a way to stop the plague or escape. Gameplay involves screen by screen exploration, solving environmental puzzles by rerouting power or finding key items, and defending yourself against mutated former crew members with whatever weapons you can salvage. The pacing is deliberate, almost tense; resources are scarce, and enemies respawn in certain areas, which keeps you cautious. It feels like a slow, thoughtful fight for survival where every decision carries weight.
