Game Overview

Prison came out for the Amiga in 1989, developed by Actionware and published by Krisalis Software. It was one of those games that felt ambitious for its time, dropping you into a hostile alien environment without much hand holding. You played as a survivor of a crashed spaceship, and the goal was straightforward: find eight escape pod parts scattered across a dangerous, interconnected world.

You control your character from an isometric perspective, moving screen by screen through desolate canyons, abandoned facilities, and eerie caves. Combat is a constant threat; you use a laser pistol against aggressive aliens, malfunctioning robots, and even other stranded prisoners. The game doesn’t guide you, so exploration and careful resource management are key. It’s difficult, often unforgiving, with a slow, tense pace that makes every new area feel risky. Figuring out where to go and what to do next gives the whole experience a satisfying, if sometimes frustrating, sense of discovery.
