Game Overview

Purikura Pocket 2 came out for the Game Boy in 2001, developed by Tose and published by Atlus. It was a strange little title for its time, trying to capture the fun of Japanese arcade photo sticker booths on a handheld that could barely display faces. You had to really want that experience, since the hardware was so limited.

You control a cursor to take photos, then decorate them with stamps, text, and frames. The main goal is to create custom sticker sheets by arranging your edited pictures before printing them out (if you had the right hardware). You move through menus to select backgrounds, add floating items like stars or food, and adjust the layout. The pace is slow and deliberate, more about creativity than challenge. It feels like making a scrapbook with someone else’s very old, very tiny art supplies.
