Play Puzzle Boy II (Japan) Online
You play as a sentient potato pushing blocks through increasingly tricky puzzles—mess up and your spud just gives up on life. Classic Atlus weirdness with that satisfying "click" when everything falls into place.

Puzzle Boy II came out for the Game Boy in 1991, developed and published by Atlus. It was part of that wave of thoughtful, portable puzzle games that really made the system feel like more than just a smaller NES. You didn't see a ton of games like this from bigger publishers at the time, so it always stood out.
You control a little character who pushes blocks around single-screen rooms. The goal is to clear a path to the exit by carefully moving obstacles, but you can't pull blocks, only push them. If you make a mistake and trap yourself, you have to reset the room. The puzzles start simple but quickly demand serious foresight, with mechanics like ice blocks that slide until they hit a wall and colored switches that affect specific barriers. It feels very deliberate and quiet, a game that makes you stop and think through every move before you make it. Finishing a difficult stage gives a real sense of having outsmarted the design.
