Raiden Densetsu – Raiden Trad (or just Raiden Trad depending on where you live) is one of those Genesis ports that somehow nails the arcade feel without losing its mind. You know the drill—tiny ship, big bullets, and that satisfying hum when you grab a power-up and suddenly your lasers can pierce through entire formations of enemy fighters.
The first few minutes feel like a warm-up, until you hit stage three and realize the screen’s basically just a mosaic of explosions and neon projectiles. It’s not the prettiest Raiden game out there, but the controls are tight, and there’s something weirdly comforting about how straightforward it is. No gimmicks, just you, a few bombs, and the occasional panic-switch to homing missiles when things get stupid.
If you’ve got a soft spot for 16-bit shooters that don’t overthink it, this one’s a solid time capsule.
