Rallyx is one of those old-school arcade games that looks simple but gets surprisingly intense. You're just a little car zipping around a maze, trying to grab all the flags before the enemy cars run you down—but the controls feel slippery in that way classic arcade games do, where every turn feels like you're barely hanging on.
At first, it seems easy enough, but then the red cars start swarming, and suddenly you're weaving through tight corners, dropping smoke screens (which, by the way, is a weirdly satisfying move for a game this old). The screen even scrolls when you reach the edges, which was pretty fancy for 1980. It's got that perfect balance of "one more try" frustration and "aha, I figured it out!" moments.
If you're into retro games, Rallyx holds up way better than you'd expect from something this old.
