Realms of Arkania: Blade of Destiny is one of those old-school RPGs that doesn’t hold your hand—and honestly, that’s part of the charm. You start by assembling a ragtag group of six adventurers, each with their own quirks (some are afraid of the dark, others are just greedy jerks), and then you’re tossed into a world where orcs are suddenly way too organized and threatening to overrun everything. Your job? Find the legendary Grimring sword before time runs out.

Exploring feels like a proper dungeon crawl—first-person for towns and caves, but battles switch to this neat isometric view where positioning matters. Forget just swinging a sword; you’ve got to think about which way you’re facing, whether your fighter’s too exhausted to lift their axe, or if your mage’s phobia of spiders just triggered mid-fight. And travel? Pack enough food, or your party will start collapsing from hunger between towns. It’s brutal, but weirdly satisfying when you finally get things right.

If you’re into deep, unforgiving RPGs where every decision sticks, this Amiga classic still holds up—just maybe keep a notepad handy for all the stats.
