Rings of Power came out for the Sega Genesis in 1991, published by Mindscape. It was one of those early console RPGs that tried to bring a complex, party-based adventure to a platform more known for action games. You don't see many titles from that era with its particular blend of ambition and rough edges.
You control a party of up to six characters, navigating a large world from an overhead perspective. The main goal is to find the scattered pieces of the Rings of Power. Exploration happens screen by screen, with turn-based combat triggered by enemy encounters. You manage spells, equipment, and the often frustrating group dynamics between your party members. The pacing is slow, and the difficulty is unforgiving, with high random encounter rates and towns that become hostile at night. It feels like a constant, deliberate struggle against the world and your own team.
