I picked up RoboCop vs The Terminator on Sega Genesis back in 1993, a time when movie tie-ins were everywhere and Interplay was putting out some solid action titles. It was one of those games you rented hoping it would actually feel like the crossover it promised, and for the most part, it delivered a gritty, straightforward run-and-gun experience without a lot of fluff.
You control RoboCop through side-scrolling levels, moving screen by screen and blasting everything that moves with your standard arm cannon. One of the best mechanics is ripping weapons right off defeated Terminators; you can snatch a plasma rifle or a grenade launcher and really lay into the next wave of enemies. The pacing is aggressive, and the difficulty doesn’t pull punches, especially when larger mechanical units show up and fill the screen with projectiles. It feels heavy and satisfying to play, like every shot has real impact, even when you’re desperately low on health.
