Game Overview

Robozone Disk1 came out on the Amiga in 1991, published by Image Works. It was one of those games that felt ambitious for its time, trying to blend a few different styles into one package. You don't see many games from that era that shift perspective so dramatically between levels.

You control a small, agile robot tasked with cleansing a polluted planet. The game is split into three distinct stages: a top-down maze where you shoot enemies in all directions, a pseudo-3D section where you move into the screen avoiding obstacles, and a side-scrolling run to the final reactor. You have to find and destroy the central pollution source, which requires navigating each area's specific threats and managing your limited energy. The pacing is tense, especially in the later stages where mistakes are costly. It feels like a race against your own reflexes as much as the game's challenges.
