Game Overview
Rocket Ranger came out for the Amiga in 1988, developed by Cinemaware and published by Mirrorsoft. It was one of those games that tried to do a lot with the hardware, mixing action with strategy in a way that felt ambitious for its time. You play as a rocket-powered commando trying to prevent a Nazi invasion from the moon, which gives the whole thing a pulpy, serial adventure feel.
You control the ranger directly, flying with a jetpack across a world map to reach enemy bases and sabotage their operations. The main goal is to gather enough Lunarium to fuel your rocket for a final assault on the moon base. Key mechanics include aerial dogfights against enemy planes, on-foot combat in enemy facilities, and using a cipher wheel to decode intercepted messages. The pacing shifts between tense action and slower puzzle solving, and it can be quite difficult to manage your resources and timing. It feels like a race against the clock, with each successful mission giving you a little more hope of turning the tide.
